A huge 45% of the population is made up of consumers who are actively cutting down on the amount of meat they eat for ethical, health and economic reasons.

So although World Vegetarian Day has come and gone, and with it all your ideas for meat-free cooking, don’t let a lack of ideas for vegetable dishes faze you.

The first ever monthly, meat-free cookery magazine in the UK launches today.

Cook Vegetarian say there will be dozens of recipes in each issue – from picnic treats to dinner parties – with professional tips and tricks for cooks of all abilities.

As well as dozens of recipes in each issue, celebrity vegetarians and meat-reducers will share their favourite meal ideas and kitchen secrets, and there will be plenty of opportunities for readers to get involved, too.

Editor, Rachel Callen says, “I’ve been knocking up vegetarian menus myself for 10 years and I never tire of experimenting with interesting combinations of ingredients.”

She added, “It’s a real pleasure to be part of creating a publication that I’m so keen to see in print myself.”

Strangely, although the number of vegetarians in the UK has stayed fairly static over recent years (around 5-7% of the population), there has been a massive growth in the amount of vegetarian food bought in supermarkets.

Someone must be doing something with it all. It might be a good idea to beetle down to your nearest newsagent and pick up a copy of Cook Vegetarian.
